Vroom vroom...Chefs Ride Motorcycles to End Childhood Hunger

Washington, DC, May 16, 2007 - Share Our Strength’s Chefs on Bikes, presented by Fortessa, Inc. is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26th. Chefs and culinary professionals throughout the Mid-Atlantic will join top local chefs on their motorcycles for a 100-mile-plus ride to raise funds to end childhood hunger in America.

About 100 participants will roar off from Indigo Landing restaurant (1 Marina Drive, Alexandria, Va.) and ride to Middleburg, Va., for lunch at Market Salamander. The next and final stop is at Chrysalis Vineyards where the chefs will enjoy a special reserve wine tasting and an afternoon of entertainment, food and fun. Celebrity chefs and food writers will judge the cooking contests and award prizes.

The 2006 tour raised more than $17,000.00 in contributions from riders, their restaurants and sponsors. Individuals may contribute by making a financial pledge of support to their favorite bike-riding chef online at www.chefsonbikes.com or in person by visiting the chefs’ restaurant during the weeks before the ride. Each chef-rider will raise a minimum of $500 or pay a $150 registration fee to participate.

“We’re thrilled to continue our commitment to building fellowship in the hospitality community while raising money for such a worthy cause,” said Scott Hamberger, managing director of Fortessa, Inc.

Chefs on Bikes 2007 will raise awareness of and funds for Share Our Strength, one of the nation’s leading organizations working to end childhood hunger in America. Since 1984, they have led the fight against hunger and poverty by inspiring and organizing individuals and businesses to share their strengths. They have raised over $200 million to fight hunger around the globe and invested critical funds in over 1,000 of the most effective hunger-related organizations to help them sustain their efforts and maximize their capacity to deliver results. Today, their priority is to end childhood hunger in America ensuring that the more than 12 million children facing hunger have access to the nutritious food they need to learn, grow and thrive.

“This special one-day motorcycle fundraising rally gets bigger every year and this year will be no exception,” said Jessie Sherrer, senior manager at Share Our Strength and organizer of the event. “Chefs realize the value in building camaraderie – this event gives them the opportunity for a fun day while helping raise money to feed hungry kids.”
